Bishop Gorman Captures Another 4A Title

For the second time in three years, Bishop Gorman is the class of Nevada's 4A schools.

The Gaels won the 2009 state title with a convincing 62-21 win over Del Sol. The Las Vegas Sun reports that Bishop Gorman finishes a perfect 15-0, winning every game by double digits.

Truckee Runs Table to Win Nevada 3A Title

Truckee finished-off a perfect season Saturday by shutting out Moapa Valley 27-0 to win Nevada's 3A state high school football championship.

The Serra Sun reports that Wolverines used a strong passing attack to avenge its 2008 championship game loss to MV.

The Meadows Repeats as Nevada's 2A Football Champ

The Meadows has now won back-to-back 2A titles after a 27-24 victory over Battle Mountain.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that the Mustangs needed Garrett Gosse's touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to comeback after losing a 20-7 halftime lead. From 1997 to 2001, The Meadows won five straight championships.

Pahranagat Valley Wins Nevada 1A Crown

Pahranagat Valley won its fourth 1A (8-man) state championship in five years with a 60-44 win over Coleville (CA).

Last season, Pahranagat Valley set a national 8-man scoring record in a 128-74 victory over Coleville.

McQueen Loses to Arizona Champ

Centennial showed Nevada football fans that it deserves its USA Today Super 25 ranking on Saturday with a 51-20 win over defending Nevada 4A champ McQueen in the Barry Sollenberger Kickoff Classic in Reno. Centennial, which entered the game ranked #9 by USA Today, now owns a 27-game win streak. AzCentral.com has all of the game details.

McQueen Squares-off Against Arizona Champ in Border Challenge

Defending 4A state champ McQueen will have the Nevada high school football spotlight to itself this weekend when the Lancers play 2008 Arizona 5A Division II champ Centennial in The Border Challenge (also known as the Sollenberger Classic) at Mackay Stadium in Reno. The game starts at 7 p.m. and can be viewed on the internet at www.aia365.com.

McQueen is the only Nevada team to be playing this weekend. The regular season for the entire state begins next weekend.

Centennial has won three straight 5A Division II championships and is riding a 26-game win streak.

Tony Sanchez is the new head football coach at Bishop Gorman. Sanchez, who takes over for Bob Altshuler who was released from his job in January, comes to the Las Vegas school from California where he coached at Cal High.
